Concerns Over Pricing in Burnout Venues Affecting the Motorsport Community

The motorsport community in South Australia is currently facing challenges due to the pricing structure at the two primary burnout pads near Adelaide: Mallala and The Bend. Both venues are operated by the same company, which has raised concerns among local enthusiasts about the affordability and accessibility of burnout competitions.

With limited options available, many participants have noticed that the costs associated with hosting events at these venues are significantly higher compared to similar competitions in interstate and rural areas. This lack of competitive pricing can create barriers for passionate motorsport fans, making it difficult for them to participate in the activities they love.

The current landscape of burnout competitions is heavily influenced by the fact that both Mallala and The Bend are owned by the same company. This dual ownership effectively removes competition from the equation, allowing the operator to set prices without the typical market checks that arise from competing venues. In a competitive environment, businesses are incentivized to offer better prices and services to attract customers. However, with both venues under the same management, there is little to no pressure to keep pricing reasonable or competitive. As a result, the company can charge whatever they deem fit, leading to significantly higher costs for participants and organizers.

At Off The Street Australia, we have attempted to collaborate with both venues to organize burnout competitions that could engage the community. Unfortunately, these discussions have not progressed as hoped, with proposed fees often exceeding our budget constraints. This situation limits opportunities for local drivers and hampers the growth of our motorsport culture.

Affordable and accessible venues are crucial for nurturing grassroots motorsport. When costs rise, aspiring drivers may feel discouraged from pursuing their passion, ultimately impacting the vibrancy of our community.

We encourage the operators of Mallala and The Bend to consider the long-term benefits of providing more accessible pricing for local events. By fostering a supportive environment for motorsport enthusiasts, they can help revitalize the local scene and engage a broader audience.

As we navigate these challenges, we invite our fellow motorsport enthusiasts to share their thoughts and experiences. Together, we can advocate for a more inclusive future for motorsport in South Australia.
